Pancake DayWhile many know this holiday as Shrove Tuesday throughout the UK, some also know it as Pancake Day. Celebrated in numerous countries, it was originally meant to be a holiday before Lent where everyone could eat up to ready themselves for Ash Wednesday.

Here are some tips for creating the perfect pancake on your Pancake Day.

Make sure not to over mix the batter.

Many tend to spend too much time combining the ingredients used to make the pancakes. Not only can this make your batter thick and hard to pour, but it can also make your pancakes less fluffy and tough. You’ll want to stop mixing when you start to see small lumps in your batter.

Give the batter some time to rest.

Few people know that the best thing to do when making your batter is to let it sit for a while after mixing it. You can often leave it for several hours or even a day—the longer you keep it covered and away from the pan, the better your pancakes will turn out. 15-30 minutes will also do if you are short on time.

Keep the egg whites separate.

Instead of mixing your egg whites together with the yolks, separating them is a simple step that will make your pancakes fluffier and lighter than leaving them in. You’ll want to mix your egg whites in another bowl until they form stiff peaks. After that, fold them into the batter and you’ll get extra fluffy results.

Look out for bubbles.

After placing the batter in a pancake shape on your griddle or pan, you’ll want to keep a close eyes our for any bubbles forming in the batter. This is a good sign—the extra air in the batter makes the pancakes and tastier. When you start to see bubbles in the centre, it’s time to flip.

Flip once.

A big mistake many make when flipping pancakes is that they do it over and over. However, the best thing to do is to to wait until you see bubbles in the batter and to then flip it to the other side. After waiting a few minutes for the other side to cook, then you’ll immediately want to put it on a plate.

Enjoy!

Finally, sit down and enjoy your well-deserved meal! Pancake Day only comes around once a year, and it’s fun to treat yourself to something that you specifically made.

once in the year!
