It is almost Halloween again, and time for fun – time to be whoever we want to be for a night, decorate our home in spider webs and ghosts, and secretly eat the candy you are supposed to be giving out to Trick-or-Treaters.
Trick-or-Treat
I blame the Americans for this travesty of Halloween, but like it or not, it is here to stay.
That said, here are some non-sugary treats you can give out on Halloween to those adorable wee ones who knock on your door:
- Granola bars are great for Halloween treats. There are some that are reasonably healthy, and most kids like them. Kind, Cascadian Farms, and Nature’s Path are a few of the healthier brands.
- Kids love stickers. They put them on everything. Sheets of stickers are a great Halloween handout for trick-or-treaters.
- There are toys made for Halloween that you can give instead of candy. Let the kids choose what toy they want out of a selection from Oriental Trading. (Be mindful of choking hazards for children age 3 and under.)
- Temporary tattoos are also popular with kids.
Other ideas for non-sugar treats to give out at Halloween can be found at:
- The Jenny Evolution online offers 50 plus ideas for non-candy treats for trick-or-treaters.
- The Kennedy Adventures is another good source for ideas.
- Parents.com offers even more ideas to the sugar-filled treats that are really not good for children.
Costumes For Children
Children 5 and above love to pick out their own costumes, but there are certain things to keep in mind when your youngster chooses his or her costume. Having a great costume is wonderful, but safety is paramount. Remember to:
- Make sure the costume is flame retardant.
- Buy a costume size that is large enough for your child to move freely in it.
- Make sure your child can see well out of the mask you get.
- Let comfortable shoes be a part of the costume as there is lots of walking involved in trick-or-treating.
- If the costume has accessories. Make sure they cannot be harmful to your child or anyone else.
Costumes For Adults
Yes, it is perfectly okay for you to dress up in a Halloween costume. Halloween costumes for adults are available in everything ranging from scary to sexy. There are great costumes for men as well as women. In fact, a male friend of mine won a Halloween costume contest dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. He was authentic right down to his white socks and high heeled red sparkly pumps and he really sold the costume to the audience, who applauded loudly to vote for him.
Party Delights and Escapade are great places to shop for adult Halloween costumes.
Whatever you do, we here at the Workplace Depot have fun on Halloween. It is a great holiday to enjoy life, friends and family!
